One off the bucket list. We had a chance to watch a space launch at the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, FL. The photos and video below don't do it justice, it's something one has to witness in person. Awesome!
How the day went (starting on September 17, 2013):
- Early morning we attended an orientation with details about the launch.
- Right after the ortientation, we took a bus ride to Launch Complex 41 at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station for a photo op. Afterwards, we returned and went to the hotel to try to catch some sleep and get ready for the night time launch.
- At 11:30pm, we took a bus ride again, this time to the Kennedy Space Center for viewing the launch. The viewing deck was only 3 miles from the launch pad, so we got a fantastic straight show view.
- After some weather delays, the Atlas V rocket with the AEHF-3 satellite was launched at 4:10am EST on September 18, 2013 in complete darkness (until the engines ignited).
- We were back at the hotel at 8am, and went right to get some more sleep.
Yes. Amazing. Unforgettable.
